Police charged two Hawaii Community Correctional Center inmates Thursday morning with second-degree escape.
They are 23-year-old Jaymeson Kaimana Makio of Honokaa and 21-year-old Camilo Darien Moreno of Holualoa.
According to police, shortly before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, HCCC personnel reported the two inmates were unaccounted for and hadn’t been seen since about 2 a.m.
Officers arrested the pair shortly afterwards at the Mooheau Bus Terminal in downtown Hilo. Makio had just boarded a Hele-On bus and Moreno was in the process of boarding the bus, police said.
Both were arrested without incident. Neither had been charged as of 1:30 p.m.
Makio had been incarcerated at HCCC for probation violation offenses, and Moreno was incarcerated as a pretrial felon for robbery, assault, and theft-related offenses.
Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives are investigating to determine how the inmates were able to escape and to account for their whereabouts from the time they escaped until their apprehension.
Anyone with information or who may have seen the escapees are asked to contact Detective Scotty Aloy at (808) 961-2375 or scotty.aloy@hawaiicounty.gov. Those who prefer to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300.
