The Big Island reported 96 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, pushing the island’s tally to 9,207 since late February 2020.
Hawaii health officials reported a total of 588 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the state’s case total to 73,856.
According to the DOH, 8,533 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,310 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 590.1 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 90.9 cases per day.
Hawaii County Thursday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 6.9.%, above the state’s 6.6% positivity rate.
On Thursday, 49 people with COVID-19 remained hospitalized on the Big Island. All of the island’s 24 ICU beds were in use with five overflow ICU bed also in use. Eleven of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Seven of those 11 COVID patients were on ventilators.
Eight new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Thursday. Of the 679 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 518 were on Oahu, 80 were in Maui County, 68 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
