Jonah Iona
Jonah Kalani Iona, 55 of Hilo, died Aug. 9, 2021, at her residence. Born on Maui, he was a sanitation engineer at Reuben’s Mexican Restaurant, and a member of Puna Canoe Club, BJ Penn’s Fitness Gym and Spencer’s Fitness Gym.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Sept. 11 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Hilo for a drive-through service.
He is survived by wife, Joan Iona of Hilo; mother, Harriet Iona of Hilo; sons, Ruben Garcia, Rudy Garcia Jr., and Chico Iona-Alconcel, all of Hilo; daughters, Ruana (AZ) Moreno of Hilo, Kelliann Iona-Jarnesky and Kayla Iona-Jarnesky, both of Maui, Jonn Kimo Iona, of Maui, and Joby Iona of Oahu; sister, Hokulani (Kimba) Kabaka of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; and 11 grandchildren.

Jean Emiko Matsuda
Jean Emiko Matsuda, 86, of Kapaau died Sept. 30, 2020, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in North Kohala, she was a retired shipping supervisor for Kohala Nursery and a member of Hawi Jodo Mission and Kohala Okinawa Kenjin Kai.
Private services held.
She is survived by sons, Scot (Lyn) Matsuda of Honolulu, Ted (Kathleen) Matsuda of Kohala, Nat (Jasmine) Matsuda of Phoenix, and Kell (Jocelin) Matsuda of Kohala; daughter, Jan (Carl) Beavers of Pahoa; brother, Kensuke (Minako) Arakaki of Torrance, California; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
