The Big Island reported 65 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, bringing the total case count to date to 7,634.
Statewide, 553 new cases were reported Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 63,502 since late February 2020, according to the Department of Health.
According to the DOH, 11,045 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,885 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 887.4 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 137.7 cases per day.
Hawaii County Tuesday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 9%, above the state’s 7.9% positivity rate.
The island’s two most populous areas, Kailua-Kona and Hilo, have reported the most cases during the past 14 days at 447 and 524 cases, respectively. Meanwhile, Waikoloa and Waimea in South Kohala have reported 60 and 110 cases, respectively.
On Tuesday, 73 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. Seven of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with 16 of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Eleven of those 16 COVID patients are on ventilators.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Tuesday. Of the 589 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 455 were on Oahu, 69 were on Maui, 59 were on the Big Island and three on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
