Roland Lucero
Roland Lorenzo Lucero, 81, of Hilo, died Aug. 17, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kahuku, Oahu, he was a retired certified journey-worker welder with Hilo Coast processing Co., also worked for Mauna Kea Agribusiness, and Pioneer Mill on Maui, and was a member of the ILWU bowling team, Fil-Am and Hawaiian Bowling Clubs of Hilo, and Waiakea Congregation Jehovah’s Witness in Hilo.

Bruce Funk
Bruce Wayne Funk, 64, of Holualoa, died May 10, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 25, 1956 in San Diego, he was a mason, coffee farmer, musician and fisherman.

He is survived by life partner, Mary Puou; daughter, Mahana Funk-Puou; son, Lowen Puou all of Holualoa; sisters, Brenda Kinsey of Kailua Kona, Margaret (Larry) Jose of Holualoa, Agnes (Mel) Aurio of Kailua Kona; grandson, Kanai Puou-Mendez of Holualoa; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Nadao Honda
Nadao “Nada” Honda, 86, of Kalopa, died July 25, 2021, at his residence. Born in Kalopa, he was a retired garage superintendent with the former Paauhau and Hamakua Sugar Cos., a member of the Honokaa Judo Club, Kalopa/Kaapahu Homestead Kumiai, HK Senior Softball League coach, past president of the Paauilo Hongwanji Mission Kyodan, former member of the Hamakua Young Farmers, longtime volunteer at the Hamakua Jodo Mission, instructor for the Honokaa Quigong Club and a U.S. Air Force from veteran.
Private services held. The family requests no koden (monetary donations).
He is survived by wife, Ann Miyoko Honda of Kalopa; sons, Orrin (Kelli) Honda of Honokaa and Ronald Honda of Kaimuki, Oahu; daughters, Hilda (Sam Bannister) Yagong and Marie (Michael Abran) Honda of Waimea; sisters, Hisae Watanabe of Hilo and Shigeko Mukai of Pearl City, Oahu; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Eva Eiko Arakawa, 96, of Hilo, died Aug. 23, 2021, at her residence. Born Oct. 6, 1924, in Hilo, she was a retired accountant for Mitsui in New York City and graduate of Hilo High School.

Mabel Gomes
Mabel Correia Gomes, 99, of Paauilo, died Aug. 15, 2021, at the Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born in Ahualoa, she was a homemaker and a member of the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Visitation 8-9:45 a.m. Sept. 4 at the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. A eulogy will be said at 9:45 a.m. and a Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Graveside committal services will follow at the Honokaa Catholic Cemetery. Seating is limited, face masks and social distancing required. Casual attire.
Survived by daughters, Stella (Henry) Tavares of Hilo and Erma Serrao of Pahoa; a daughter-in-law; five grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Lois Sanekane
Lois Kilohana “Aunty Lois” Sanekane, 62, of Pahoa died July 30, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a teacher at Pahoa High &Intermediate School and was a longtime instructor for the Na Pua No’eau summer programs.
Visitation 2-4 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Dodo Mortuary Chapel. A private memorial service will follow. Face masks and social distancing required. Casual attire; no flowers.

Raymond Johnson
Raymond Samuel Johnson, 89, of Hilo, died Aug. 15, 2021, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Nov. 15, 1931, in New York City, he was a published poet and a mainstream actor.

George B. Enter, aka George Shippey, 56, died Aug. 13, 2021. He was born Nov. 28, 1964, on the island of Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.
