The Big Island Thursday added 176 new cases of COVID-19, pushing the island’s total case count to 6,916.
Statewide, 831 new cases were reported Wednesday, bringing the state’s total to 58,578 since late February 2020, according to the Department of Health.
Hawaii County on Thursday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 8.6%, above the state’s 8.4% positivity rate.
According to the DOH, 9,952 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,754 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 701 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 132 cases per day.
The island’s two most populous areas, Kailua-Kona and Hilo, have reported the most cases during the past 14 days at 400 and 506 cases, respectively. Meanwhile, Waikoloa and Waimea in South Kohala have reported 74 and 107 cases, respectively. Captain Cook and Honaunau have reported 74 cases in the past two weeks.
On Thursday, 67 people with COVID-19 were remained hospitalized on the Big Island, unchanged from Wednesday. Four of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with 12 of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Ten of those 12 COVID patients are on ventilators.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Thursday. Of the 573 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 441 were on Oahu, 67 were on Maui, 59 were on the Big Island and three on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
