Hawaii Island reported 100 new COVID-19 cases bringing the total case count to date to 6,656.
Statewide, 565 new cases were reported, bringing the state’s total to 57,235 since late February 2020, according to the Department of Health.
Hawaii County on Tuesday had a seven-day test positivty rate of 8.4%, just above the state’s 8.3% positivity rate.
According to the DOH, 9,520 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,671 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 688.1 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 128.4 cases per day.
The island’s two most populous areas, Kailua-Kona and Hilo, have reported the most cases during the past 14 days at 407 and 471 cases, respectively. Meanwhile, Waikoloa and Waimea in South Kohala have reported 77 and 106 cases, respectively. Captain Cook and Honaunau have reported 64 cases in the past two weeks.
On Tuesday, 62 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island, down two from Monday. Two of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with 13 of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Nine of those 13 COVID patients are on ventilators.
One new coronavirus-related death was reported Tuesday on Oahu. No additional details were released. Of the 565 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 434 were on Oahu, 66 were on Maui, 59 were on the Big Island and three on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
