Get vaccinated: Advice from an ex-South African

I grew up in South Africa so I have a different perspective than some folks here. During my childhood, few vaccines were available. I had measles, mumps, whooping cough and chicken pox and survived those OK because I had medical care, adequate nutrition and shelter. Many who got these diseases in my country were not as fortunate as I was and got very sick and died. In the U.S., we take many things for granted. While there may be some circumstances which merit caution, I believe is it out of a place of privilege that many are choosing to refuse the vaccine. It is not only about the individual but the whole community. It is clear that serious COVID consequences are much more prevalent among the unvaccinated.

I am vaccinated and believe that we have to take the risk of the vaccine versus the risk of a COVID infection and continuous mutations and maybe even worse illness. I am a health care provider and my understanding is that the mRNA vaccine has been based on many years of research and not just recently developed. I have many friends and colleagues in the medical world who have a broader view of medicine than is typical in Western-trained providers. They too believe taking the vaccine at this time is the right course of action. Please get it done.

Specs were needed

Thanks, Mr. Henry Curtis for adding the size info missing from the letter from Alabama suggesting our wind farms could be replaced by two 20Mw turbines. It would be interesting to see a graphic showing 18 “little” turbines next to two of the giants, as well as some economic comparison.
