William Scott Jr.
William “Bill” Merrill Scott Jr., 76, of Hilo, died July 26, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Los Angeles, he was an aircraft mechanic and veteran of the U.S. Marines serving in Vietnam.
Services will be held at a later date.
He is survived by, wife, Denise Scott of Hilo; sons, William (Cheryl) Scott III of Newcastle, Oklahoma, and Christopher (Jamie) Chong of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughters, Lesley (Kevin) McGinnis of Euless, Texas, Beth Scott of Weatherford, Texas, Erica Chong of Honolulu, and Katrina (Scott) Chong-Tercero of Hilo; brothers, Howard (Ana) Scott of Duarte, California, Patrick (Joyce) Scott of Duncan, Oklahoma and George (Patricia) Scott of Brainerd, Minnesota; sister, Martha Martin of Hot Springs, Arkansas; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tadashi Haimoto
Tadashi Haimoto, 84, of Hilo, died July 29, 2021, at his residence. Born Nov. 19, 1936, in Papaikou, he was retired from Allied Aggregates Corporation as a quarry operator, truck driver and heavy equipment operator, formerly employed by Continental Equipment Rentals on Oahu and Kuwaye Brothers, Inc., and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 3 and International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
Friends may call at 3 p.m. Aug. 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Casual attire is requested.
He is survived by daughters, Vicki (Dennis) Haimoto-Leite, Bunnie Haimoto and Connie Haimoto-Tua’au, all of Hilo; step-son, Austin (Walene) Oili of Honolulu; hanai daughters, Renee Ellorda of Kona and Aileen Black of Oahu; hanai son, George Deponte of Hilo; sisters, Shizuko Hohu of Honolulu, and Yaeko (Howard) Hose and Violet Sakamoto, all of Hilo; eight grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Wilbert Nakano
Wilbert “Bushman” Kengo Nakano, 76, of Hilo, died Aug. 4, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he retired from the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, was a member of the Lincoln Wreckers Golf Club and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by sister, Janette (Clifford) Kusunoki of Pearl City, Oahu; brother, Herbert Nakano of Hilo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Yanabu
Robert Tsuneo Yanabu, 96, of Hilo, died Aug. 2, 2021, at a private care home in Hilo. Born March 29, 1925, in Mountain View, He was retired Hawaii County Fire Department firefighter, plant nursery owner and U.S. Army veteran.

Elvis Bartolome Sr.
Elvis Abian Bartolome Sr., 48, of Pahoa, died June 20, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a self-employed papaya farmer and a member of the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Kyle Ben Joaquin, 49 of Papaaloa, died May 29, 2021, at the Providence St. Peter Hospital in Seattle. Born at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women &Children on Oahu, he was a mover for Hawaii Professional Movers, salesman and manager at Royal Hawaiian Movers, manager at the Disney Hotel, Venetian Hotel, Grand Naniloa Hotel, King Kamehameha Hotel and other hotels.

James DeFilippis
James V. DeFilippis, 72, of Hilo, died July 17, 2021, at Pohai Malama in Hilo. Born Sept. 7, 1948 in Passaic, New Jersey, he was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran, retired from the University of Florida School of Agriculture, a master of Chi Gung, and a Master Gardener who established the Hilo Bay Clinic Garden.

Jeremy Gilbert Song, 74, of Hilo, died June 26, 2021. Born in Hilo, he was a retired owner of Modern Shoe Repair.

Josephine DeMorales
Josephine “Miss D” DeMorales, 78, of Hilo, died Aug. 9, 2021 at her residence. Born in Naalehu, she was a retired principal of Ka’u High School and Pahala Elementary School and vice principal of Konawaena High School.
Friends may call at 7 a.m. Aug, 19 at Naalehu Sacred Heart Church for 8 a.m. Mass. An urn burial will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 20 at Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo.
She is survived by sisters, Deanna Palmer of Monterey, California, and Marie Kaya of Hilo; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
