Big Island reports 110 new COVID-19 cases, 59th death

State health officials reported 110 new COVID-19 cases on the Big Island Friday, bringing Hawaii County’s total case tally to 4,594.

Statewide, 628 new cases were reported by the Department of Health with 424 of those cases on Oahu, 64 in Maui County and nine on Kauai. Twenty-one cases were among residents diagnosed out of state.

Since the end of last February, 45,245 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.

The Big Island had a 8% seven-day positivity rate, over the state’s 6.8% positivity rate on Friday. Over the last 14 days, 986 cases have been reported on the Big Island. Over the past week, the island has reported an average of 90 cases per day.

Two new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Friday — one on Oahu and one on the Big Island. Of the 540 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 414 were on Oahu, 61 were on Maui, 59 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Four deaths were among residents outside the state.
