Hawaii Community Correctional Center reported five new COVID-19 cases at the jail facility on Tuesday.
The Department of Public Safety said it received 44 inmate test results. Of that number, four were positive. In addition, there were 16 HCCC staff results reported, one of which was positive, according to the department.
According to the Department of Public Safety’s COVID-19 testing reports, 1,303 inmates have been tested with 249 positive results at the Hilo jail since the start opf the pandemic in February 2020.
The facility was declared free of COVID-19 on Thursday. More than 200 inmates were infected in that last outbreak that began May 24. However, a positive case cropped up Friday followed the cases announced Tuesday.
