The Hawaii Police Department this week received 20 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) from the Max and Yetta Karasik Family Foundation.
The donation, which came through the Hilo Medical Center Foundation, includes 20 AEDs, training pads, cases and a four-year maintenance plan, according to the Hawaii Police Department. The donation is valued at just under $35,000.
The AEDs will be distributed to officers islandwide following a ceremony held Tuesday in Hilo and attended by police and representatives from the foundation.
“Hawaii Police Department appreciates the generous donation of AEDs as it will provide valuable tools for our officers as they continue to assist our community,” said Chief Paul Ferreira.
The Hilo Medical Center Foundation continues to partner with various donors to perpetuate the “Be a Lifesaver Hawaii Program” to help raise awareness for sudden cardiac arrest, help place AEDs into our local community and train people on chest compression only CPR.
