New hunting season beginning July 1
The Department of Land and Natural Resoruces Division of Forestry and Wildlife will begin issuing hunting lincences and stamps on Tuesday for the upcoming hunting season, which opens July 1 and runs through June 30, 2020.
DOFAW offices have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hunters can purchase licenses and stamps online by credit card. Individuals without internet access or needing other purchasing options can contact island-specific DOFAW offices by phone. A valid license is required for hunting on public and private lands.

‘Discover Palamanui’
workshops start June 22
Hawaii Community College — Palamanui will host a series of online workshops via Zoom in June and July for people interested in learning more about what the Kona campus offers and how to enroll for the fall 2021 semester.
The “Discover Palamanui” workshops kick off at noon June 21 with an information session about the Early College/Running Start programs. At noon June 22, is “All About Palamanui,” during which participants can learn about the degrees and certificates offered at the campus and how to enroll followed at 5 p.m. by a presentation on the school’s “Hawaii Life Styles Program.”
The series continues at noon June 23 with “Be a Hero, Be a Nurse” that’ll discuss the school’s nursing program. At noon June 24, the series will cover “Associate of Science in Natural Science” in which participants can learn about the Natural Science program that can prepare them to transfer to bachelor’s degree programs in STEM subjects. Later June 24, at 5 p.m., the series will tackle online/hybrid degrees.
“Discover Palamanui” wraps up with a noon June 25 workshop called “Elama/Hilo One,” during which participants will learn about the unique scholarship opportunities.
The workshops resume again in July.

Konawaena creating souvenir booklet
for centennial
Konawaena Centennial is creating a souvenir booklet to mark the 100th year of Konawaena High School.
The booklet will have colored photos and interesting stories about Konawaena High School. Businesses, families, and individuals can purchase space in the booklet to be a part of the centennial celebration. Deadline for submission is July 31.
