Two new COVID-19 cases reported Tuesday increased the Big Island’s total case count to 2,855.
Statewide, 23 new cases were reported by the Department of Health with 16 of those cases on Oahu, one in Maui County and one on Kauai. Three cases were residents diagnosed out of state. Since the end of last February, 35,924 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 53 cases, or an average of 3.8 cases per day. The Kailua-Kona and Hilo areas both reported 12 cases.
The Big Island Tuesday still had a 0.9% positivity rate, just under the statewide rate of 1%.
Also Tuesday, a total of 38 patients with the virus were in Hawaii hospitals with one reported on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Tuesday. Of the 496 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 384 were on Oahu, 54 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
