A hiker was rescued from a North Kohala valley after an old knee injury flared up.
Hawaii Fire Department rescue personnel responded to a report of an injured hiker around 7:15 a.m. The hiker was located in the third valley of Pololu Valley and stated they were unable to hike out.
The patient was extracted using a county helicopter and brought to a designated landing zone to rendezvous with awaiting medics near the Pololu Valley Lookout.
The patient was taken to Kohala Hospital in stable condition.
