John Hamano
John “Johnny” Tsuneo Hamano, 81, of Hilo, died April 9, 2021, at a care home in Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired co-owner of Industrial Iron Works Corporation, U.S. Army veteran and member of Tenrikyo Kilauea Church and Tenrikyo Hawaii Shima Kyoyukai.

He is survived by wife, Suk Hui Hamano of Hilo; brothers, James (Sandra) Hamano of Hilo, and Miles Hamano of Honolulu; sisters, Mae Takamoto of Hawaiian Paradise Park, and Emma (Larry) Sousa of Hilo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Wilfred Hussey Jr.
Wilfred K. Hussey Jr., 19, of Hilo, was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, 31st Infantry. He was declared missing in action on Dec. 12, 1950, and presumed dead on Dec. 31, 1953. His remains were identified and accounted for on Sept. 10, 2019. A 1949 graduate of Hilo High School, he played football for the Waiakea Pirates and volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1949, earning the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Korean Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 23 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10:30 a.m. service. Urn committal service to follow at noon at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 pavilion. The family requests aloha attire and no flowers.
He is survived by brother, Clifford (Cheryl) Hussey of Reno, Nevada; sister, Abilene (Earl) Akim Seu of Hilo; sister-in-law, Beatrice Nani Hussey of Honolulu; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Peter Clark
Peter Holden Clark, 52, of Hilo, died March 28, 2021, at his residence. Born in Oakland, California, he was a professional snowboarder and fishing charter captain.

Aiko Shiroma
Aiko Irei Shiroma “Granny,” 90, of Waimea, died April 3, 2021, at her residence. Born Aug. 30, 1930, in Wahiawa, Oahu, she was a cashier at Speedy’s Supermarket in Aiea and retired from Sure Save Supermarket in Waimea.

She is survived by son, Clyde (Michele) Shiroma of Aiea; daughters, Diane (Arthur) Fong of Kailua, Oahu, Leatrice (John) Keolanui of Waimea, Charlene Shiroma of Honolulu, and Michelle (Wardner) Kanakaole of Hilo; sister, Nancy Asato of Pearl City, Oahu; brother, George Irei of California; 16 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Perry Miles
Perry Alan Miles, 73, of Hilo, died April 14, 2021, at his residence. Born in Astoria, Oregon, he was a chief warrant officer in the U.S. Army and Vietnam War veteran and an active participant in the Vacationland Community Association.

He is survived by wife, Mary Marinaro; sisters, Matelita (Terry) Atkins, Maria Walker, and Raylynn Miles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty Jo Kainani Mercado, 46, of Hilo, died April 12, 2021, at Hilo Medical center. Born in 1975 on Oahu, she worked at the Hilo Lunch Shop.

Rolland Namoc
Rolland Cliffton Namoc, 80, of Hilo, died April 6, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 23, 1940, in Ewa, Oahu, he was a retired lieutenant for the state Department of Public Safety at Kulani Correctional Facility, a U.S. Army veteran and member of the Big Island Ballroom Dance Club and the Kamana Senior Center.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 26 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Private urn service with military honors at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 to follow. Casual attire.
