The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count increased to 2,384 Monday with nine new cases reported.
Statewide, a total of 79 new cases were reported Monday by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 47 of those cases, Maui County 21 and Kauai had one new case. One resident was diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, to date, there have been 28,851 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Big Island on Monday had a 1.0% test positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 1.5%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 102 cases or an average of seven cases per day. The majority of those cases have been in West Hawaii with 29 reported in the Kailua-Kona area in the past 14 days. The Hilo area has reported 23 while the Keaau area has reported 17.
Statewide, 21 people were hospitalized Monday, with one hospitalization on the Big Island. To date, 2,261 people have required hospitalization, including 118 on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Monday by the state. Of the 454 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 361 were on Oahu, 36 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
No deaths have been reported on the Big Island this year.
