HONOLULU — A 7-year-old girl who started a handmade bracelet business is donating some of her proceeds to local charities.
Mila Diaz began selling her bracelets made of twine, colorful wave charms and other accessories in February, KGMB-TV reported.
Her parents helped set up a stand in their kava bar in Kihei and began posting her bracelets on Facebook.
Mila then donated $100 of her sales to the Maui Economic Opportunity’s Head Start program, a program for children from underprivileged families in Maui County.
Mila has sold over 100 bracelets so far.
“I wanted to help people,” Mila said. “It makes you feel good because I am giving to other people, not me.”
A separate donor who heard about Mila’s donation gave her $50 for the cause, which increased her donation to $150.
Mila said she plans on making donations to a special cause each month.
