A wind advisory has been extended for most of the Big Island through Monday afternoon.
East to northeast winds of 20 mph to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are forecast through 6 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu. The advisory covers the southern, northern, and eastern areas of the Big Island, including interior portions. Forecasters noted to following locales in the advisory: South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa,Waimea, Waikoloa, Bradshaw Field, and Saddle Road above 5,000 feet in elevation.
Forecasters cautioned that the winds this strong are capable of downing tents or other temporary structures, as well as downing trees and causing power outages. Motorists should use extra caution while driving.
