Artwalk Unleashed recently announced the VIP Opening of Puppy Love Park, a members-only, private, off-leash dog park, located within a new, outdoor, art gallery park in Kona.
“We have dog-friendly cafes, hospitality venues, public parks and more for dogs and their 2-legged friends to enjoy together. This is an additional opportunity to let dogs be dogs while their significant others enjoy the tropical venue, replete with art exhibits, wildlife such as birds and butterflies with dragonflies zipping around,” said Founder Julia Hutton. Members are welcomed by a hot cup of fresh coffee when they check-in at the main gate between the hours of 7 and 9 a.m. daily, except Fridays when the park is closed for maintenance.
The opening event is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, in celebration of Valentine’s Day and the love-oriented project. The park is dedicated to the love for dogs, which Hutton said is by their very nature, pure love.
Hutton, 77, is also a budding artist and is setting the pace at ArtWalk by exhibiting her paintings that depict the bond between dogs and their human counterparts. She hopes her showing will inspire others to do likewise regardless of whether their art is dog-related or not.
The public is welcome to attend the VIP opening but due to the pandemic, reservations are required so that social distancing can be ensured. Dogs are welcome as long as their spay, neuter and shot records are presented and the dog and owner are mellow and socialize well with others. Hot dogs and food will be offered.
Membership dues at PuppyLovePark are $365 a year and members and their dogs are approved or membership based on social abilities, shot records showing up-to-date immunizations (COVID for people/Bordetella for dogs), and spay/neuter status paperwork.
The ArtWalk outdoor gallery part of the project is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily and is open to the public although there may be off-leash dogs running around at the same time. Entrance fee for ArtWalk is $5 which is paid at the time of self-registration. The general public is not permitted to bring a dog whether on or off a leash and can attend by reservation-only. Artists of all kinds are encouraged to contact Beth Morin, manager, at (808) 746-0813.
