East to northeast winds of 20 mph to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are forecast through 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu. The advisory noted the following areas South Point, Pahala, Hilo,Volcano, Honokaa, Waimea and Waikoloa.
Forecasters cautioned that the winds this strong are capable of downing tents or other temporary structures, as well as downing trees and causing power outages. Motorists should use extra caution while driving.
