Hawaii Island reports five new COVID-19 cases

Hawaii Island reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the island’s total case tally to 2,113.

The new Hawaii Island cases were among 132 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 99 new cases while Maui County reported 19 and Kauai none. Nine residents were diagnosed while outside the state.

Statewide, to date, there have been 24,870 people who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Hawaii County on Friday had a 1.4% test positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 2.4%.

Statewide, 100 people were hospitalized Friday, including two on Hawaii Island. To date, 2,005 people have required hospitalization, including 108 on Hawaii Island.

Four new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Friday by the state, all among Oahu residents. Of the 332 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 262 were on Oahu, 20 were on Maui, 45 were on Hawaii Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.

Hawaii County Civil Defense has reported no new deaths since the start of the year, leaving the death toll at 51. The state has yet to confirm and report of the coronavirus-related deaths Civil Defense has announced.

The island’s COVID-19 fatality rate remained at 2.1% on Friday, above the statewide rate of 1.3%.
