Back on the bandwagon

Every cause is tyranny; and every cause is oligarchy. Sen. Russell Kokubun started up this sustainability bandwagon back when he was in power. Then it ran out of gas.

Our new mayor will drum up a second sustainability crusade. It will lead to more tax breaks for large and small “Green Acres” aristocrats. Then the rest of Hawaii County’s citizens must foot a larger chunk of the bill. We will see nothing in return except for a place in the breadline … waiting for handouts from those who are on the gravy train.

Calling it as it is

A recent letter-writer accused reporters of the “Main Stream Media” (of which this paper, by the nature of its job, is a member) of favoring “fire-starting looter vandals” in last year’s disturbances on the mainland. This was evidenced, he said, by reporters’ use of “peaceful protesters” to describe the rioters.

I doubt he can point to specific instances of this.

Reporters are professionals. When they see a riot, they call it a riot, don’t exclaim “Ah, peaceful protesters.” When they see peaceful protesters, they will of course report what they see. Reporters who don’t tell us what they see are admonished (sent to the woodshed, brought on the carpet, etc.) by their editors.

The letter-writer also has a problem with what to call those uninvited guests at the U.S. Capitol. What problem? “Mob” is quite appropriate, don’t you think?

Pro-life and pro-death penalty?

Janice Palma-Glennie said there’s no sanctity, morality or sensibility in kowtowing to an angry, hateful madman who demands public execution as a way to fulfill his fantasies of supreme power. Isn’t this the same “madman” who brags of his love of God and following Jesus as he gets his henchmen to shoo away people for his bible photo shoot. He also brags that he is “pro-life” with promoting anti-abortion. Not sure which he is in favor of, pro-life or executions. It depends on his ego.

An idea for the next ‘flash mob’

Hey Ms. Melendez, here’s a great idea for your next flash mob: Let’s all get in our vehicles and drive around town exceeding the speed limits and run every stop sign and traffic lights we can to protest mean old government restrictions on our God given right of free movement.
