Hawaii Island’s COVID-19 case count increased by 20 Saturday bringing the island’s total case count to 1,994.
The new Hawaii Island cases were among 250 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health bringing the statewide case tally to 23,143 since Feb. 28. Oahu reported 159 new cases while Maui County reported 51 and Kauai none. Twenty residents were diagnosed while outside the state.
Hawaii County has a 1.9% test positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 3.5%.
Statewide, 129 people were hospitalized Saturday, including two on Hawaii Island. To date, 1,864 people have required hospitalization, including 103 on Hawaii Island.
Four new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Saturday by the state, all on Oahu. Of the 307 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 241 were on Oahu, 18 were on Maui, 45 were on Hawaii Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
Hawaii County Civil Defense reported no new deaths on the island Saturday, leaving the toll at 51. The state has yet to confirm six of the deaths reported to date on Hawaii Island.
The island’s COVID-19 fatality rate remained at 2.3% on Saturday, above the statewide rate of 1.3%.
