Maxie Claveria

Maxie Michael Keola Claveria, 53, of Hilo, died Sept. 22, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 29, 1966, in Hilo, he was a former security guard at Casino Royale in Las Vegas and belonged to various Bowling Clubs in Hilo and Las Vegas.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by step-father, Charles Kaleo III of Hilo; step-mother, Irene Ahuna of Dolan Springs, AZ; sisters, Stormi (David) Kaleo and Sanci Ahulau-Kaleo of Hilo, Pua Turqueza of Lani City, Lanai; brothers, Bula (Maile) Kaelo of Hilo, Davie Ahuna, Joey Ahuna, Maka Ahuna, Robert Galdones and Richard Galdones of Springs, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Roy Yoshitsugu

Roy Rikio Yoshitsugu, 76, of Hilo, died Dec. 22, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 4, 1944, in Hilo, he was a photographer, artist, former owner of McKinley Photo in Honolulu, U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Upper Kaumana Kumiai and Hilo Senior Net.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by brother, Albert Yoshitsugu of Hilo; sister, Carol (Roy) Hamakawa of Hilo; and a niece and nephew.

Andrew Hayes

Andrew Christopher Hayes, 50, of Renton, WA, and formerly of South Kohala, died Dec. 5, 2020, in Renton, WA. Born April 26, 1970, in Everett, WA, he was a partner with South Kohala Housekeeping.

Services will be held in Washington at a later date.

He is survived by son, Daylan Merrifield; parents, Gus and Janet Hayes; siblings, Lori (Mike) Caviezel and Gus Hayes Jr.; granddaughters, Cami and Lily; uncle, Jim (Jean) Myers; partner, Melissa Main, of the Big Island; and nieces and nephews.

Martha Black

Martha M. (Pattie) Black, 96, formerly of Puako, died Dec. 17, 2020, in Santa Barbara, California. Born in Waco, Texas, she taught at Waiokeola Preschool on Oahu, volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Association, Meals on Wheels, Aina Haina Library and Iolani Palace, worked for Royal Hawaiian Airlines at Kamuela Airport and operated a bed and breakfast with her late husband.

She is survived by sons, David (Dianne) of Santa Barbara, CA, Todd (Marty) of Seattle, and Rick (Tomoko) of Waikoloa; sister, Jean Graham of Sarasota, FL; and two grandchildren.
