Kahilu Theatre presents shows
via Kahilu.TV
December sees the premier of four amazing shows on Kahilu.TV, three which are live and one which has been lauded as one of the ways theaters have saved a Christmas classic. Manual Cinema has created “A Christmas Carol” for our time, a new, live shadow puppet cinema work for a physically distanced holiday season. See the trailer from this innovative Chicago company at https://bit.ly/2WguZM1 to get a good sense of the show.
Also coming up, live on Kahilu.TV, is the Kona Harp Ensemble’s Celtic Christmas, 7 p.m. Dec. 18, featuring enchanting music from the oldest written piece of music from Syria, English Renaissance, Irish Baroque, Russian, and Hawaiian traditional music to contemporary works by Leonard Cohen, James Horner and Ennio Morricone.
The quartet ensemble for the performances comprises Manuel Roberto (Hawaiian bamboo flutes, Bansuri, Japanese Shakuhachi, Native American flute and Irish piccolo flute), Bernice Roberto (harp and vocalist), Jean-Pierre Thoma (gold flute, clarinet and saxophone), and Madhavi Infinity (harp, keyboards and vocals). Individual tickets for this live-streamed performance, which are good for an entire household, are $19.99 and available at Kahilu.TV.
Returning to the Big Island, Dirty Cello will light up the Kahilu Theatre stage live at 4 p.m. Dec. 19, via Kahilu.TV. Individual tickets for this production, which are good for an entire household, are $19.99 and available at Kahilu.TV.
Oakland magazine says “Dirty Cello’s music is all over the map: funky, carnival, romantic, sexy, tangled, electric, fiercely rhythmic, and textured, and only occasionally classical.” From China to Italy, and all over the U.S., Dirty Cello brings the world a high energy and unique spin on blues and bluegrass. Led by vivacious crossover cellist, Rebecca Roudman, Dirty Cello is cello like you’ve never heard before. From down home blues with a wailing cello to virtuosic stompin’ bluegrass, Dirty Cello is a band that gets your heart thumping and your toes tapping!
