A dozen new cases of COVID-19 were reported Saturday on Hawaii Island, bringing the island’s total case count to 1,636.
The new Hawaii Island case was among 133 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health bringing the total case tally to 18,423 since Feb. 28. Oahu reported 83 new cases while Maui County reported 17. The remaining 21 cases were among residents diagnosed outside the state.
Statewide, 57 people were hospitalized Saturday, including two on Hawaii Island. To date, 1,325 people have required hospitalization, including 80 on Hawaii Island.
Five new coronavirus-related deaths were confirmed and reported by the state Saturday. Two were on Hawaii Island and three were on Oahu.
Of the 261 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 198 were on Oahu, 17 were on Maui, 43 were on Hawaii Island and one on Kauai. Two deaths were among residents outside the state.
Hawaii County Civil Defense has reported a total of 49 coronavirus-related fatalities on Hawaii Island. The state has yet to confirm six of the deaths reported to date on Hawaii Island and has not responded to repeated requests for information on pending cases.
