Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters said the large northwest swell will result in wave heights of 6 feet to 8 feet for west-facing shores of Hawaii Island until 6 p.m. The surf is expected to primarily impact the Kona Coast.
The forecasters also cautioned that the surf will coincide with this morning’s high tide bringing an increased risk of wave run-up and overwash along low-lying coastlines exposed to the swell.
Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution, the service said.
