Fair’s fair
Many homeowners in Hawaii have tenants who have not paid any rent since May due to the state allowing said tenants to forgo rent payments until after the COVID-19 crisis. All lenders have also been instructed that they cannot foreclose on a property right now due to lack of mortgage payments from the borrower, because of the COVID-19 crisis, which does relieve the homeowner of immediate foreclosure.
But, if the property taxes aren’t paid, the lender has every right to foreclose, and the state/county has not passed any law that forgives the property owner if property taxes aren’t paid on time. This situation would indicate that many families that rely on a lessee to help pay the property taxes and at present, have a nonpaying lessee, could find themselves being foreclosed by the lender come this August. The solution to save those families/individuals is for the state/county to delay collecting property taxes on the properties who have nonpaying tenants. After all, what’s fair is fair.

Time for America to win again
When in the history of the United States of America has our national election been preceded by boarded up windows and shuttered business, in expectation of violence and reprisal? This does not bode well for the legacy of MAGA (Make America Great Again). In fact, one can argue that America was greater, more tolerant, more diversified, more in every way in 2016 than in 2020.
We had environmental protection, prestige and respect in the eyes of the world. We had corralled Iran’s nuclear power and had watchdog status over North Korea. We had a health care system that ensured that millions of Americans pre-existing conditions were covered and health care options became more affordable.
Where are we now? We have experienced four years of a president who exaggerates and blatant and willfully lies. Our health care response to an unprecedented pandemic has been shortsighted and ineffective, largely because the guidelines and materials readied in advanced to counteract and manage this very real risk, put in place by the previous administration were dismissed and discarded.
We are a country divided. President Donald Trump did not create bigotry nor racism, he merely made it acceptable. Out in the open. Prodded and supported by a president who thrives on chaos.
He now is proclaiming massive fraud and election tampering which in reality is nonexistent. Why? Because if he didn’t win, it had to be fraudulent. I ask you, where are the responsible adults? Where are the members of Congress, election officials and Republican party leaders with integrity? When do we ascend to integrity, and again support the values and principles that this once great country was founded upon?
It’s time for America to win again. Reject the legacy of a loser.
