A wind advisory is in effect for portions of Hawaii Island through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Strong high pressure north of the state is forecast to produce strong and gusty winds through Wednesday, forecasters with the Honolulu-based National Weather Service Forecast Office said. Wind gusts of 20 mph to 30 mph, with gusts over 50 mph, are expected from South Point to Hilo to Honokaa to Waikoloa.
Forecasters cautioned that the winds could down trees and cause power outages and advised motorists use extra care while driving.
