The 24 cases were among 100 new COVID-19 cases announced across the state. The remainder of the cases were on Oahu, which reported 66 positive results and Kauai, Lanai and Maui islands, each of which reported one new case. Seven residents were also diagnosed with the virus while outside the state.
As of Thursday afternoon, 14,328 of the known 15,572 cases in the Aloha State were considered active, including 1,120 cases on Hawaii Island. An active case is defined as an individual who has tested positive for the coronavirus and is being monitored by the Department of Health.
Statewide, 68 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized Thursday, including eight on Hawaii Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the state on Thursday. Of the 219 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported to date, 170 were on Oahu, 17 were on Maui, one on Lanai, 31 were on Hawaii Island and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
Hawaii County Civil Civil Defense also reported no new deaths, leaving the total number of fatalities on Hawaii Island to 48. Twenty-seven of the deaths were among residents of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo and four were at Kona Community Hospital. The state has yet to confirm 17 of the deaths reported to date on Hawaii Island.
