HONOLULU – TalkStory Productions (TSP), a Hawaii-based independent production company, is excited to announce the premier of its film, STORY GAME at this year’s Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF40), Nov. 5-29, 2020. The movie starts off at a remote campsite on Hawaii’s North Shore, transporting viewers to modern-day and old Japan, where eerie, dark tales unfold as three friends try to outwit each other with their best obake (supernatural/ghost) story.
“My goal for STORY GAME is to share Japanese urban fables with the rest of the world,” said TSP president and the film’s director/writer Jason Lau. “By intertwining three well-known supernatural legends – some based on true stories or accounts – from Japan into one film, I hope to celebrate the mysticism of storytelling around a campfire.”
The film brings together an all-star production team who have worked on acclaimed and popular projects such as the Oscar-nominated film ‘The Tempest,’ ‘Terrace House Aloha State,’ ‘Beyond the Break,’ ‘The Short List,’ ‘The Tank,’ and ‘Hanalei Bay.’
The cast also features upcoming actors and actresses from Hawaii, Hollywood and Japan, including seasoned talent and celebrities like Japanese Academy Newcomer of Year Winners Ayaka Wilson (2009) and Ayumi Ito (1997). LDH JAPAN Inc. has already signed on to distribute STORY GAME in Japan, as it did with TSP’s Hanalei Bay.
As the only supernatural, horror/thriller flick locally produced and shot in Hawaii and Japan, STORY GAME highlights the diversity of cinematic talent and genres coming out of Hawaii’s vibrant and growing filmmaking scene. The movie is also one of only a few select HIFF40 films that will be offered online and in theaters for select screenings.
The movie trailer and tickets to all screening options for STORY GAME are available via the HIFF40 website at https://fp.hiff.org/films/detail/story_game_2020.
