The new Hawaii Island cases were among 62 new positive results announced by the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center bringing the statewide tally to 13,575. Oahu reported 37 new cases.
As of noon Tuesday, 2,741 of those known cases were considered active, including 249 cases on Hawaii Island. An active case is defined as an individual who has tested positive for the coronavirus and is being monitored by the Department of Health.
According to the Department of Health, 164 cases have onset dates within 28 days in the Kailua-Kona area and 117 cases have onset dates within the past 28 days in the Hilo area.
Statewide, 951 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 50 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
The state reported four new coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday. Three were on Oahu and one was on Maui.
Of the 173 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported to date among Hawaii residents to date, 144 were on Oahu, 13 were on Maui, 15 were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
Hawaii County Civil Defense reported no new coronavirus-related deaths Tuesday, leaving the death toll at 37. That figure includes 27 residents of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. The state has yet to confirm and report the last 22 deaths on the island.
