State health officials reported Friday 87 new COVID-19 cases, including 16 on Hawaii Island and 70 on Oahu.
With the new cases, the statewide COVID-19 tally reached 12,601 while Hawaii Island’s total number of cases since Feb. 28 hit 752, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center. According to the Department of Health, 49 cases have onset dates within 28 days in the Kailua-Kona area and 109 cases have onset dates within the past 28 days in the Hilo area.
As of noon Friday, 2,212 of those known cases were considered active, including 134 cases on Hawaii Island. An active case is defined as an individual who has tested positive for the coronavirus and is being monitored by the Department of Health.
Statewide, 880 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 42 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
The center reported three new deaths Friday among Oahu residents. One was a man in his 80s and the other two were women in their 60s. All had underlying health conditions and were hospitalized.
Of the 142 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported to date among Hawaii residents to date, 117 were on Oahu, nine were on Maui, 15 were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
Hawaii County Civil Defense reported no new deaths on Hawaii Island Friday. To date, 29 Hawaii Island residents, including 27 residents of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home, have died from the novel coronavirus. The state has yet to confirm the last 24 deaths.
