VFW Kona Post announces events
The VFW Kona Post, located behind Kona Locksmith on Kaiwi Street, will host its Friday meal from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. All veterans, their family, guests and the public are welcome and encouraged to support this income source for the VFW. Mask guidelines are required for entrance.
The dinner will feature chili, jalapeno corn bread, tater salad and dessert by chefs Mark and Tim for $10. Checks are accepted. Preorders are appreciated by calling 769-8643. Meals can be eaten at the VFW or taken out; the bar will be open during dinner hours with masks required. To-go orders are encouraged.
On Sunday, the Kona Post opens for football from noon to 5 p.m.
Taco Tuesday featuring ground beef or shrimp, rice and beans for $7 will be hosted from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. To-go orders are encouraged.
At 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Kona Post Planning Committee. From noon to 6 p.m., the VFW hosts a potluck with the bar open for service.

National Drive Electric Week kicks off Saturday
The Hawaii Electric Vehicle Association invites Hawaii’s driving public to attend a two-part webinar event celebrating National Drive Electric Week, which runs Saturday through Oct. 4.
The first webinar is at 11 a.m. on Saturday and will cover EV benefits, the basics of EV ownership, and buying tips, EV dealer presentations, with virtual audience Q&A. The second is set for 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 3 and will feature a panel of experts, legislators, and EV owners who will discuss the statewide to transition to clean transportation, benefits and roadblocks, new EV models.

County announces Saturday hours for some Registration & Licensing offices
Vehicle Registration and Licensing offices in Pahoa, Waimea, Kona and Ka‘u will be open on Saturday to process expired Hawaii Driver’s License and driver’s licenses expiring in September by appointment only, the Hawaii County Department of Finance announced this week.
Appointments may be made at https://vehicleregistrationlicensing.as.me/driverlicense. No walk-ins.
