Kona Community Hospital currently has one COVID-19 inpatient at the facility, spokeswoman Judy Donovan said Friday.
That patient arrived within the past few days and is in the intensive care unit. As of Friday afternoon, three of the hospital’s nine ICU beds were occupied, she said. Of the hospital’s 13 ventilators, two were in use.
The remainder of the facility’s beds were “well below total capacity,” according to Donovan.
Though the hospital’s capacity is faring well, Donovan urged the community to be proactive in the fight against COVID-19.
“We’re especially alert to potential exposures because of the holiday weekend,” she said. “We want to encourage our community to stay safe and be vigilant, and avoid large gatherings.”
The hospital’s PPE (personal protective equipment) inventory is currently fine, she said. However, the Kona Ambulatory Surgery Center continues to accept PPE donations. Call 331-7960 to arrange a drop off at the surgery center.
