State health officials on Monday reported 133 new cases of COVID-19, bringing Hawaii’s total case count to 8,472.
Of Monday’s new cases, 107 were on Oahu, 24 were on Hawaii Island and one was on Maui, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center. One new case was diagnosed among a resident while out of state.
Of the 8,472 known cases since Feb. 28, some 5,894 of those cases are still considered active. That includes 181 of the known cases on the Big Island.
To date, Oahu has recorded the majority of the state’s positive cases at 7,691 cases. Hawaii County has recorded 364 cases, Maui County 335 and Kauai County 57. Twenty-five residents have tested positive while out of the state.
Statewide, 508 or 6% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 13 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update. Hawaii County Civil Defense, however, reported 17 people were hospitalized.
The center also reported seven new coronavirus-related deaths, including the two deaths reported on Sunday at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo that were reported Sunday by Big Island newspapers. The other five deaths were among Oahu residents.
Of the 70 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 59 were on Oahu, eight were on Maui, two were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
