Hawaii County reports nine new cases of COVID-19

Nine new COVID-19 cases were reported on Hawaii Island Monday, bringing Hawaii County’s total case count to 209.

Of the 209 known cases to date, 65 remained active as of noon Monday, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center.

Statewide, health officials on Monday reported 169 new cases of COVID-19 as the state’s total case count reached 6,769 with 4,597 of those cases still considered active.

The center also reported two new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the state’s death toll to 49. The victims, a man and a woman, were both over age 80 and suffered underlying medical conditions.

Of Monday’s new cases, 150 were on Oahu, 10 were on Maui and nine were on Hawaii Island, according to center.

To date, Oahu has recorded the majority of the state’s positive cases at 6,181 cases. Maui County has recorded 300 cases, Hawaii County 209 and Kauai County 56. Twenty-three residents have tested positive while out of the state.

Statewide, 399 or 6% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including eight on Hawaii Island with four still admitted as of Monday morning.

Of the 49 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 39 were on Oahu, seven were on Maui and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
