DOH reports 261 new COVID-19 cases, two coronavirus-related deaths

State health officials on Wednesday reported 261 new cases of COVID-19 and two additional coronavirus-related deaths.

With the new cases, Hawaii’s total case count now stands at 5,609 since Feb. 28. The state’s 42nd and 43rd coronavirus-related deaths occurred on Oahu.

Of the new cases, 233 were on Oahu, 21 were on Maui, and seven were on Hawaii Island, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center.

The majority of the cases have been reported on Oahu at 5,111 cases. Maui County has recorded 262 cases, Hawaii County 159 and Kauai County 54. Twenty-three residents have tested positive while out of the state.

Of the Hawaii residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,977 of those cases have since recovered and been released from isolation. Twenty-six of the Big Island’s 159 known COVID-19 cases to date remained active Wednesday.

Statewide, 303 or 5% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including six on Hawaii Island.

Of the 43 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 36 were on Oahu, six were on Maui and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
