An additional 174 cases of COVID-19 were reported Monday by state health officials. With the new cases, Hawaii’s total case count now stands at 5,215 since Feb. 28.
Of the new cases, 163 were on Oahu, nine were on Maui, and two were on Hawaii Island, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center.
The majority of the cases have been reported on Oahu at 4,754 cases. Maui County has recorded 235 cases, Hawaii County 149 and Kauai County 54. Twenty-three residents have tested positive while out of the state.
The center said that Ige and Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell met at length Monday and agree that additional targeted restrictions will be needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on Oahu to stop the spread of COVID-19.
“We anticipate an announcement, with details, this week,” the center said in a media release.
Of the Hawaii residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,868 of those cases have since recovered and been released from isolation. Twenty-two of the Big Island’s 149 known COVID-19 cases to date remained active Monday.
Statewide, 288 or 6% of COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including six on Hawaii Island.
Of the 40 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 33 were on Oahu, six were on Maui and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
