Nursing students receive scholarships
The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary’s Nursing Scholarship Committee recently awarded $12,000 in scholarships to a handful of first- and second-year nursing students.
First-year students receiving scholarships were Ha’aheo Sai, John Darrell Paz and Nicole Kailipaka, who was awarded the annual Ford-Kimura Scholarship.
Second-year nursing students Rufel Aehegma, Ashton Millet and Mae-Ann Pasion Transfiguracion also received scholarships. These students first received scholarships for the 2019-20 academic year and maintained excellent grade point averages, qualifying them for second year scholarships.
Over the years, more than $100,000 has been awarded via scholarships. All first- and second-year nursing students accepted into an accredited school of nursing are welcome to apply. Applicants are scored on their application, a personal essay, college transcripts and an in-person interview.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the auxiliary is unable to hold its general membership meeting/luncheon during which the scholarships would have been presented.
“We wish each of the six 2020-2021 worthy scholarship winners all the best in their academic and future careers,” the committee said.
