Several West Hawaii state parks will close early on Saturday, July 4.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said Friday that it will close at 5 p.m. Independence Day the Kua Bay section of Kekaha Kai State Park (the Mahaiula section will be closed); Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area, including the Waialea Bay section; Lapakahi State Park; and Kiholo State Park Reserve.
Current park hours will resume on Sunday.
The early closure of these facilities is to discourage the use of fireworks, which are prohibited in state parks, and to protect people and the natural resources of the parks, the department said.
