New COVID-19 case reported on Big Island

Five new cases of COVID-19 were reported by health officials on Wednesday, bringing Hawaii’s case total to 744.

Four of the cases were on Oahu and the fifth on Hawaii Island, according to the COVID-19 Joint Information Center. All of the cases are adults.

Oahu’s tally now stands at 508, Maui’s at 120, Kauai’s at 21 and Hawaii Island at 83. One case was removed from Oahu’s tally after follow-up testing, according to the center.

Of the cases statewide, 644 have since recovered and been released from isolation, including 81 of Hawaii County’s 83 cases to date. Ninety-five people have required hospitalization, including one person in Hawaii County.

The death toll from coronavirus-related illness remained at 17, with 11 on Oahu and six on Maui, since Feb. 28.
