An elderly female resident remained unaccounted for Saturday following a structure fire that destroyed a home in Pahala.

Responding to the 1:23 p.m. alarm, Hawaii Fire Department personnel arrived at 96-1150 Kamani Street a minute later to find a the downstairs kitchen, carport and an SUV on fire. The fire was also encroaching on the downstairs area of the residence.

A man had already evacuated the two-story structure, however, an elderly female was unaccounted for.

“Fire crews took an offensive attack to make entry to the possible location of the missing party. Due to the size of the and intensity of the fire aided by high winds and large fuel load in the residence fire crews were forced to transition to a defensive attack which enabled them to contain the fire and damage to the single home,” a press release from the department reads.

No additional details were available as of press-time Sunday.
