The Solidarity in Surf: Worldwide paddle-out organized by Katie Winkenhower, 23, and her partner Talea Lischetzki, 25, was held Friday at Hapuna Beach State Park. It was inspired by Rhonda Harper of @blackgirlssurf, who created an event to bring together surfers from all over the world to paddle out in solidarity with the black community and in remembrance of Breonna Taylor’s birthday. Taylor was shot and killed during a mistaken police raid in March of this year. She would have been 27.

The event ran from 5 p.m. to sunset, and organizers say around 250 people attended to show aloha to the black community, to let people express their thoughts, and to raise money to donate to Campaign Zero, @campaignzero.
