A Kona District Court judge on Friday granted supervised release to a 66-year-old Captain Cook man charged with second-degree murder in the death of his son.
James Bonham made his initial court appearance Friday before Judge Margaret Masunaga during which she granted a motion for supervised release by Deputy Public Defender Jimmy Greenberg.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Annaliese Wolf had argued bail be maintained at $50,000.
The single charge of second-degree murder stems from a reported shooting in the 83-5000 block of Middle Keei Road in Captain Cook, according to police, who were sent the area at 9:09 p.m. Tuesday.
Upon arrival, officers located a 45-year-old man with an injury consistent with a gunshot, police said. The victim was later pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.
Police said his name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next-of-kin. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
