Hawaii Island police arrested seven motorists for suspected drunken driving between March 30 and Sunday. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash and one was younger than age 21.
Kona officers arrested three drivers while officers in Puna and South Hilo officers arrested two motorists in each district, according to data released Monday by the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 274 DUI arrests compared with 326 during the same period last year, according to police. There have been 250 major accidents so far this year compared with 276 during the same period last year.
Seven fatalities have been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways through Monday afternoon, police said. By this time in 2019, five people had perished.
