A 53-year-old Puna man has been charged with attempted murder, terroristic threatening, abuse and other charges stemming from a domestic incident Monday in Orchidland Estates.
Ricky Lee Bowen was charged Wednesday with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree terroristic threatening, felony abuse of a family or household member involving aggravated strangulation, carrying/use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony, interference with reporting an emergency or crime, failure to register a firearm and misdemeanor abuse of a family or household member, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Bowen remains in police custody in lieu of $324,000 bail pending an initial court appearance slated for Thursday in Hilo.
At 2:54 p.m. Monday, Puna patrol officers responded to a report of a physical domestic incident involving a man and an injured woman at a Melekule Street residence in the Orchidland Estates subdivision.
Officers arrived and located a 51-year-old woman with injuries to her hand and jaw informing police that she was assaulted by her spouse, according to the Hawaii Police Department. The victim also reported that he had fired a gun at her as she ran from the residence. The victim was not injured by the shots and refused medical treatment.
Police said Bowen was taken into custody without incident.
