Araminta Clifton

Araminta “Minnie” Ellen Clifton, 90, of Pahoa, died March 10 2020, at home. Born Feb. 4, 1930, in South Dakota, she was a homemaker and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Waikahe Ward.

Family graveside committal service at 10:30 a.m. March 17 at Alae Cemetery.

She is survived by son, Jared Clifton of Oregon; daughters, Kathleen (Geoff) Cleak of Walnut Creek, Calif., Teresa (Chayan) Samalee of Tacoma, Wash., Lila (Gilman) Kahai and Amy (Gordon) Naehu of Pahoa; 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Jesus Caspillo

Jesus Jimenez “Jesse” Caspillo, 52, of Mountain View, died on Feb. 25, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kaunakakai, he was an electrician with TandT Electric.

Friends may call 6-9 p.m. March 19 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call 9-10 a.m. March 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire; no flowers.

He is survived by fiancée, Jodie Padilla of Mountain View; mother, Barbara Caspillo of Molokai; sisters, Mary Liza (Teddy Foronda) Caspillo of Ewa Beach and Gloria Jean (Larry) Aalona of Molokai; brother, Edwin (Daine) Caspillo of Mililani; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ira De Mattos

Ira Michael De Mattos, 31, died Feb. 10, 2020 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 1, 1988, in Hawaii, he was the store manager for Sushi Shiono.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. March 21 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Lunch to follow.

He is survived by wife, Jessica Reiko De Mattos; parents, Michael and Clara De Mattos of Hilo; brothers, Blane Gracida, Kyle (Cholena) Gracida and Damien (Anela) De Mattos, all of Hilo.

Kaniu Segovia

Kaniu Mary Bacon Segovia, 61, of Hilo died March 1, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was self-employed as a tax preparer and a former schoolteacher.

Friends may call 9:30-11 a.m. March 21 at the Event Center at The Arc Of Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Aloha attire; flowers and lei welcome.

She is survived by mother, Mercedes Hutchison Bacon of Kailua; husband, Harold Segovia of Hilo; daughter, Kapaelani Segovia Comstock of Hilo; brothers, James Bacon of Huntsville, Alabama and Paul Bacon of Pahoa; sisters, Monica Bacon of Makiki, Anna Bacon Slagle of Kailua, and Mara Bacon Chang of Kaneohe; four grandsons; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Elmer Auna Jr.

Elmer Makalona Auna Jr., 63 of Honokaa, died Feb. 11, 2020. Born in Honokaa, he was an equipment operator for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., irrigation worker for Hawaiian Irrigation Co. and golf course maintenance at Waimea Country Club.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. March 21 at Kukuihaele Park for a celebration of life. Casual attire; no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Laura Kimura Auna of Honokaa; sons, Christopher Auna of Kahului, Maui, and Brandon Auna of Honokaa; sisters, Joanne Nakamura of Kukuihaele, Noreen Kunishige of Kawaihae and Myra Kunishige of Kawaihae; numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia Lorenzo

Virginia “Virgie” Laureta Lorenzo, 71, of Honokaa, died Feb. 24, 2020 at The Queen’s Medical Center – West Oahu.

Born Sept. 4, 1948, in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a retired laundry supervisor for Hilton Waikoloa Village and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Friends may call 8-10 a.m. March 21 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial to follow at Honokaa Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Vermilio Lorenzo of Honokaa; sons, Virgilio Lorenzo of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mandel (Kristel) Lorenzo of Everett, Washington, Kenneth (Alisa) Lorenzo of Waimea and Noel (Janoa) Lorenzo of Ewa Beach, Oahu; daughter, Phoebe (John) Scovel of Honokaa; sisters, Lucena (Abraham) Lumabao of Honokaa, Margarita Laureta of Honokaa and Zita Gomes of Keaau; 13 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
