Hawaii County police report a 35-year-old Waimea woman was arrested Thursday after a report of a vehicle break-in was made to police.
About 3:45 a.m. Thursday, South Kohala Patrol officers responded to the 64-0800 block of Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea for a report of a vehicle that had been broken into and several items removed, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
As officers conducted checks in the surrounding areas, they encountered Marie Aiona who was operating a vehicle without illuminated headlights on Kahilu Road. As officers contacted Aiona, they observed items within her vehicle that matched the description of the items that had just been reported stolen.
Aiona was arrested for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and subsequently transported to the Kealakehe Police Station as officers continued the investigation. Upon executing a search warrant on the vehicle, officers recovered some of the victims’ items, an illegal switchblade and numerous paraphernalia related to narcotics use.
On Friday, Aiona was charged with on one count of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, switchblades prohibited, and prohibited acts relating to drug paraphernalia.
Her bail has been set at $11,025. She remains in police custody at the Kealakehe Police Station pending her initial court appearance in Kona District Court Monday morning.
